In the contemporary world, it's hard to determine what Art is; and, perhaps, even the question is fundamentally wrong. We feel that, instead of debating about its essence, it would be better to find its goals, its functions, its duties. Following this path, we think it's more appropriate to talk about Artworks, the concrete aspects of Art, more than of an abstract and shifty notion of Art.
You may see "home" as a turris eburnea where you can stay safe, close to your loved ones and aloof from danger and pain. Then, if you are polished and sophisticated, want to surround yourself with Artworks, and not in the bourgeois sense of convenience and prestige. The Artworks you choose must represent the ultimate essence of Beauty itself, and they can give you everyday spiritual and ethical inputs. Anyway, it wouldn't be enough for you, as this kind of refined life carries also more terrible dangers: the risks of forgetting, becoming blind, and shutting up our conscience and consciousness. We risk to forget who we are as human beings in a broader sense, our history, our nature and our limits, to stop looking at and even seeing pain and suffering wherever close or far from home, to ignore any introspection and any reflexion about God, Religion and Soul, to transform our life in a daily routine of earning for satisfying our immediate material needs without caring about both the others and ourselves at all.
That is what we mean when we say Artworks have the duty to keep people aware, and awaken. That they have to drive people uncomfortable at some extent, stir them to action, like beautiful and charming mistresses that rip us out of priggishness, habits and inertia. Artworks must not be nice pics on the wall or investments funds in the bank. They may be made by words and printed as books, or painted on a canvas or carved on the heavy stone, they may be printed like photographs and etchings, or played and suddenly die like intangible and invisible notes; however, their fundamental aspect is arousing the souls, showing essence together with Beauty.
Furthermore, as visual arts, unlike music and literature, can be seized in one go and can help people living better, we are proud to introduce the Artworks we found trough our research and study, which have a harmony of Beauty, skill, social values against bourgeois annihilation, anarchical messages against nationalism and sterile patriotism, Religious and spiritual meanings driving to awareness and understanding, and any element which can keep the good and bad memories of the past toward present and future.
So, we have decided to make a stand against ugliness, non-sense, falsehood and easiness (the main virtues of most of contemporary self-considering artworks). We are active since 2007, and it took time and efforts for giving ourselves an identity. Being our site our mirror, we have though about it very carefully and eventually decided only now to publish it. That's why we don't want to follow the standard artists / exhibitions / advertising site, which is totally incompatible with our position, but we prefer to show the fruits of our labour and research whenever we have one from now onward, regardless of the exhibitions of the very same Artworks in our space in Shanghai or in other location anywhere else. We see the web as another space we have to take care of, and not a simple window for digitalized paintings, and we consider our activity as something based on the relation with people we collaborate and cooperate with, being them artists, collectors, curators or anyone we can share our mission with.
